Let’s Help Kids Heading Back To School

Summer is heating up and the last thing our children want to even think about is going back to school. Well not at the Salvation Army! They are helping to prepare families for the Back-To-School necessities. They report that the average family spends $670.00 in school supplies and clothing. This is a serious challenge for those who are struggling with basic needs of food and shelter.

The local Salvation Army is coordinating efforts to collect needed items and to get them to the families that are in need. We have placed one of their collection boxes in our office and will be taking donations for the next few weeks.MEME_MASTER_Back_to_School_Girl_with_backpack

The system is similar to the Holiday Angel Tree. The Back-To-School Tree has removable apples that give you the gender of the child and what grade they are in at school as well as what they need for the coming school year.

The items requested include a lot of school supplies…

  • Wide ruled paper
  • Rulers
  • Backpacks
  • Glue Sticks
  • Markers
  • #2 Pencils
  • Pencil Boxes
  • Crayons
  • Scissors
  • Spiral Notebooks

In addition to needed personal items…IMG_1452 (2)

  • Tooth Brushes
  • Tooth Paste
  • Underwear (Boys and Girls)
  • Shampoo
  • Socks Deodorant

To participate you have a few options:

You can stop by our office and pick up an Apple and after shopping for the child return to our office with the supplies

Or

Call our office at (775) 233-5316 and we will read you the list from an Apple for you to bring to the office.

Or

You could simply purchase a number of the items on the list above and swing by our office with your treasures!

If you need assistance in getting your children ready to hit the books this fall, or if you know someone that would benefit from assistance, plsease contact our local Salvation Army, 1931 Sutro Street Reno 89512. Telephone: 775-688-4555.

Doing a kind act for another person is really its own reward. If we all just “payed it forward” we would transform our world for the better.

It all starts with you.
