Meet Your Instructor Michael "Mickey" Yasmer, BSW, CADC A native Nevadan,
Michael Yasmer
is a Substance Abuse Counselor as well as a Drug & Alcohol Educator with
an extensive background in 12 Step Facilitation Therapy using a Growing up in the Truckee Meadows not only gave Mickey the chance to wrap himself in the free-wheeling Nevada lifestyle but to fall under the spell of a state that "gives away booze and fights over water!" His many personal experiences with relevant issues concerning substance use help some clients feel that they may have found themselves a kindred spirit in their instructor. Mickey is Certified by the State of Nevada Board of Examiners for Alcohol, Drug and Gambling Counselors as an Alcohol & Drug Counselor and is Licensed by the State of Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles as a DUI Instructor. Mickey is a member of NAADAC, the National Association of Alcoholism & Drug Counselors.
Receiving a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work from the University of Nevada, Reno along with a Minor in Addiction Treatment Services, Mickey also holds an Associate's Degree from Truckee Meadows Community College for Mental Health Services-Substance Abuse Counseling. He was also inducted into both the Phi Alpha and Phi Theta Kappa honor Societies in recognition of academic excellence. What his Peers and Friends have to say............... Mickey's passion is music with eclectic tastes ranging from Springsteen to Sinatra, from Johnny Cash to Tom Petty. Clients are often surprised by the concert DVDs that seem to play non-stop in the classroom both before and after sessions. He also enjoys talking sports with a particular weak spot for underdogs (Go Cubs!). Mickey is also an avid collector of sports memorabilia with a focus on the 49ers (Joe Montana & Jerry Rice). Mickey and his wife Kathy have a daughter, Natasha, and a granddaughter Neveah along with two sons, Josh and Nathan. They live in Reno where they are both active in local recovery groups. Both are avid readers who enjoy spending time with their friends & family as well as gardening, watching the frequent visitors to their bird feeder and caring for a reef tank filled with neurotic fish and assorted creatures. |
